The new season of “Californication” is excellent. This season, TV has sucked. “Entourage” was pretty much a total bust and completely pointless (or moreso than usual) this season. “Mad Men” has been OK but I feel like it’s been trying too hard to be “Mad Men.” Jason Schwartzman’s new show “Bored to Death” looked promising but it’s really, really bad and unfunny. “Weeds” got off to a really slow start but mostly failed (especially since the kid who plays Shane grew up between seasons and has gone from cute kid to pubescent teenager who absolutely cannot act. “How I Met Your Mother,” on the other hand, has been off to a really excellent start and the first episode of the season was one of their funniest to date. And yeah, “Californication” is only two episodes in but it’s already poised to be the best yet. But I am biased, as someone with a degree in Creative Writing I’m really excited to have Hank Moody illustrate how pointless it is.
